Node js for beginners
A

Software Engineer

As this is a beginner's friendly blog, But there are some prerequisites for node js that a user should know Before he starts to learn Node js.

Prerequisites for Node js are as follows:-

  • To get the most out of it a user should know basic JavaScript and some of its important concepts.

  • It will be good if the user has some understanding of other web technologies such as HTML, CSS, etc

  • A user should be familiar with any one of the Programming languages like Python, Java, C++ and so on, Which should also work.

  • It has some more prerequisites that we can learn along Node js

And now we arrive at our very 1st question

What is Node js?

Node js is an open-source and cross-platform JavaScript runtime environment. It is a popular tool for almost any kind of project. Node js runs the V8 JavaScript engine, the core of Google Chrome, outside of the browser. This allows Node.js to be very performant.

The definition of Node JS according to its official documentation is as follows:-

Node.js is a platform built on Chrome's JavaScript runtime for easily building fast and scalable network applications. Node.js uses an event-driven, non-blocking I/O model that makes it lightweight and efficient, perfect for data-intensive real-time applications that run across distributed devices

Node.js also provides a rich library of various JavaScript modules which simplifies the development of web applications using Node.js to a great extent.

Here in the above diagram, we can see some important parts of Node Js.

Features of Node js:-

  • Extremely fast: Node.js is built on Google Chrome's V8 JavaScript Engine, so its library is very fast in code execution.

  • No Buffering − Node.js applications never buffer any data. These applications simply output the data in chunks.

  • Open source: Node.js has an open-source community that has produced many excellent modules to add additional capabilities to Node.js applications.

  • Single-threaded: Node.js follows a single-threaded model with event looping.

  • Highly Scalable: Node.js is highly scalable because the event mechanism helps the server to respond in a non-blocking way.

Where is Node js being used

Node js is being used in big companies like eBay, General Electric, GoDaddy, Microsoft, PayPal, Uber, and many more!

Where can we use Node js

Node js can be used in various scenarios some of which are

  • I/O bound Applications

  • Data Streaming Applications

  • Data Intensive Real-time Applications (DIRT)

  • JSON APIs based Applications

  • Single Page Applications

That is all for this blog . See you all in the next blog in which we will learn more about Node like

  • Installing node in your system

  • Creating your first node application

  • And many more

Till then Happy learning, let us learn together!
